Cash for Coloradans Coalition
We exist to build a future where every Coloradan has the financial security and freedom to pursue a life of dignity, opportunity, and choice.
Vision
Our coalition works to build a future where every person in Colorado has financial security and the freedom to pursue a life filled with dignity, opportunity, and choice. Our coalition is working to build a pathway where all individuals can thrive without fear of poverty or financial hardship.
Mission
Through collaborative policy development, community organizing, and identifying sustainable funding for cash policies, we aim to make guaranteed income a foundational pillar in creating a more equitable and inclusive Colorado.
The very first decision I made after finding out that I had been approved [to receive a guaranteed income]… was to let my 10-year-old have his very first birthday party. He’d never had a birthday party, and he’d always wanted one, and I was like, can’t afford it, can’t afford it. So, he actually got to invite his friends to have a birthday party.

[Because of receiving guaranteed income] I’m not worried about if I’m going to run out of money. When I go to the cash register, I may have to pull out five cards, but I’m going to make it through the register.

Before I started receiving [a garunteed income through the Thriving Providers Project], I was about to leave the job I love. I love taking care of children and I almost couldn’t do it anymore [as I was not making enough money]. Thankfully this support arrived and I was able to continue providing childcare for members of my community, covering costs not only for myself but for the children I care for. Something I had in my heart was I always wanted a pizza and ice cream date with my kids once per month, and now for the first time I am able to do that.

What is Direct Cash Assistance?
Direct cash assistance is when organizations or government programs give money directly to people who need it — no strings attached.
Instead of providing specific services like food stamps or housing vouchers, direct cash assistance puts money in people’s hands and lets them decide how to use it. This might be a one-time payment or regular monthly amounts.
Research shows direct cash assistance provides basic financial stability that builds security and gives participants the freedom to use the flexible income assistance to get better jobs, go back to school, and cover basic living expenses like housing, groceries, and paying off bills.
